The 6° backsweep of the grip ends is currently regarded as the optimum angle for comfort in cross-country. In order to achieve the superior stiffness of the lightweight carbon handlebars, we allow the ø 31.8 mm clamping area to extend as far as possible over 200 mm to the usual 22.2 mm grip ends, which is perfect for wide handlebars in particular. These lightweight carbon handlebars have proven themselves in mountain bike races all over the world.
Like all of our TLO series products, our lightweight full carbon MTB bars are hand-wound (about carbon) from the best prepregs available on the market to suit your weight and riding style. The layer structure, further refined over 30 years of production experience, with up to 16 layers in the heavily stressed middle section and only 5 layers in the lightly stressed lower arch, enables the incredible weights despite the well-known rigidity and the legendary indestructibility required in cross-country.
Our carbon MTB handlebars may only be shortened by up to 10 mm on each side. So make sure you order the right width for your requirements! Bar ends cannot be used on these lightweight carbon handlebars! If you are not sure whether you want to use bar ends, the SL flat bar, which is 15 g heavier and has thicker bar ends, may be the better choice. As the TLO handlebars do not have the option of mounting bar ends, they are not subjected to as much stress as the SL handlebars. This is especially true in the event of an accident. Therefore, the lighter TLO handlebars are even stronger than the SL handlebars! These thin-walled carbon handlebars can be supplemented with our customised carbon handlebar plugs.
The lightweight MTB handlebars are also available with optional holes for internal cable routing (ICR). This option has 3 holes: one each at the bottom between the stem and brake levers on the left and right side, as well as a third hole at the rear in the centre of the MTB handlebars. If you are planning internal cable routing for your setup, please remember to select the “ICR ready” option when ordering. The necessary reinforcement increases the total weight of the carbon handlebars by around 4 g.
All our lightweight carbon MTB flat bars are unpainted to avoid adding unnecessary weight and because the epoxy surface is much more resistant than any paint, so it won’t get scratched as quickly. All our lightweight carbon MTB handlebars come in the current matt look. TLO MTB bars can be ordered in 1k weave or UD. 1k is the classic carbon look with biaxially woven fibres. With UD (unidirectional), all carbon fibres run in one direction. This gives the surface a uniform black, almost painted look. In general, UD carbon parts are a few grams heavier than 1K carbon parts. You can find out more about UD and 1k here.
To create the perfect look on your bike, all TLO Carbon MTB handlebars are available in 3 different logo colours: Schmolke Edition (red / white), Black Edition and White Edition.
